There was finally a break in the weather and it warmed up enough for Hannah and I to decide that today was a good day to go to Antelope Island.
I got up early, cleaned my car and went to the store to get some snacks for our trip.
I drove up to her house and arrived a bit early at 9:45 so she invited me in. I met her mother again and had a nice discussion about where she and her family were from. She was born in Vernal and had moved all around the upper Utah area in the beginning of her life. Hannah‘s family on both sides is pretty much all congregated in Utah somewhere.
Hannah had been to Antelope Island a couple of times before so I had her be our guide. When we were heading to the island, she pointed out all the different areas where she grew up at.
Once we crossed the bridge, we went to the visitor center that was right at the northern tip of the island. We kind of planned our route with the topographical map that they have there. We first did a small quarter mile hike up to Buffalo point. We both figured out pretty quickly how out of shape we were, we got winded pretty quickly getting up though it was far from a difficult hike. We talked about a few small things and I did ask her where she thought she would like to live in the future and she mentioned that Utah was pretty much her home.
Afterwards, we decided to drive down to the southern tip of the island, but we only got 2/3 the way there and the road was blocked off, we decided to explore the ranch that they had there. We sat in a field that they had set up for a picnickers and had a few snacks that Hannah had brought. They had a bunch of buildings built in the 1930s and had an exhibit for how farm work was done then.
Once we were done with the ranch, we went up to the northern half of the island again and ate lunch at the Buffalo Grill. They had a 45 minute wait for dining so after we ordered our food, we walked out to the beach. It was probably a half mile of sand before the water. I mentioned here along our way, that I was a nailbiter, and she said the same for the same reasons that I had where I just basically didn’t know what to do with my hands when I was working. After we got back, we ate lunch.
After lunch, we drove up to ladyfingers point and walked out onto the rocks. We did another quarter mile hike. We some people taking wedding photos in the distance and briefly talked about one of her friends weddings that had a fantasy theme.
At this point, it was about 3:30 so we decided to head back to her house. We drove back mostly in silence, mainly because I just didn’t know what to say. I really want to bring up some points that I had written down previously, but I didn’t feel that it was the right time. I also thought that maybe even in the silence that it would be a good time to reach over and hold her hand, but for some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. After dropping her off at home, I drove home myself and was so tired! Definitely got a little bit baked in the sun doing those hikes.
I took about an hour nap after I got home and then played a little bit of Minecraft afterwards. Hannah was on and we got to talk a little bit! She jumped off shortly after I joined though because her family was watching the first Dune movie.
