I just came across a sad sight and have to write what I am feeling. I left my house to run a couple errands and along the way to the main street is about a 4 foot deep drainage, ditch running alongside the road. In the middle of the stretch I saw what looked like an animal, so I pulled over to the side. What I found was a beautiful, orange and white tabby cat with long fur. It didn’t look as though it had been struck by a car, but had fallen in the ditch and froze to death.
It laid peacefully on the side of the ravine, while the frigid water passed around it. Its eyes were glossed over and body solid as ice. It had no collar which I was hoping it would so I could know its name.
I am ashamed to admit that I left the cat there. There was nothing I could do. I don’t know where to bury it, and it would feel disrespectful to put it in the trash.
I am sitting here struggling to write this knowing the cat was once a loved and cherished pet. I hope the family that lost this beautiful animal can find peace, knowing they are in a better place.
