Life and Death Update

About an hour after my previous post, I had an overwhelming urge to do some thing. I grabbed a moving blanket and headed back down to the ravine. I picked up the cat, wrapped it up in the blanket and set it in the back of my car. I called around to a few veterinarians and animal shelters, but all of them, even animal control, were closed because it is Saturday and tomorrow is New Year’s Eve. The only place I found open was the small animal hospital inside of Petco.

I took the cat there and had them scan it for microchip. Unfortunately, it did not have one. I was really hoping that it did because I wanted to at least know its name or tell the family who lost it where it is. Petco was unable to help me any further after that.

I didn’t know of anywhere to bury it, so I took it home, I had previously purchased some power tools for Christmas and one of the boxes had a styrofoam insert that was perfect to fit the cat in. I wrapped it up in the box and offered a prayer of peace upon the family and safety of the cat. Unfortunately, I will have to put it in the trash on trash day but at least it has a little more dignity than lying in a ditch.

Maybe one day I’ll see that cat again.
